Shimizu University (DESTROYED 2374)

Overall the best university on NeoTokyo, though Ishikawa University begs to differ, ocasionally with artillery.

Located in the Shimizu Mega-City Pyramid

The Yang Shi-Ja School For Cultural Design

Traditionalists. Too influenced by the Earth parent cultures and suspicious of anything designed after 2265.

Song Ah-Kai Professor of Personal Design Fan Feng-Rong

The Land School/Cybernetic Culture Research Unit

Ground zero of Accelerationists. Chance held her nose and got a Masters in Accelerationist Studies from them. Friction is currently in the Masters program in Synthetic Computing ("we can't say AI, but AI").

Students in the Cybertech Masters program are required to design, build, and install a cybersuite in a cat, and then monitor them in an urban environment for at least a week.

The Unit has been running a cyberfeline techno-sociology program for at least a century, monitoring the cyber-feline colony in University Heights. It's not generally known who's actually collecting and analyzing all the data, or what it's being used for, but there's a lot of it.

Staff (as of 2365)

Friction's advisor.

Astrid Madigan ("Sister Chromatid")

Biochemist specializing in synth/flesh neurochemical interfaces. NeuralNymph poached her from Singularity University in Koto City. Full-on Singularitarian, but not one of the preachy ones. A graduate of the Cybernetics Lab and veteran of the kittyborg capstone. Knows Friction from the clubs and Chance from arguing on net forums.

Kylie Bentzen ("NeuralNymph")

Grad student. Adorable. Newly promoted manager of the Cybertech Lab.

Camden Zemke (“Marmorealist”)

Asistant Professor. Specializes in skins and subdermal armorings. Huge fan of military/spy adventure fiction, will likely end up working for one of the big defense corps, unless their dream of being snapped up by some mysterious agency comes true.

Lina Bolovoi (“Borborygmi”)

Assistant Professor. Gut specialist. Torn between research work and nasty-neighborhood ER, where she'd get to, er, lay a lot more pipe.

Paulo Carvalho Viera

Grad student, metabolic biochemistry. Amateur existentialist, voluntary depressive. Street names are for poseurs: a true scholar uses a name to be immortalized for the ages.

Amber Sonoda ("Backslash")

Grad student. Furious that Kylie got promoted over her, as she'd linked her career to Windslett's, doing AI work that's pushing the boundaries of what Netwatch will kill her barista over. Huge unrequited crush on Marmorealist. Generally not having a good year.

Deceased

Armand Windslett, Nick Land Chair of Accelerationist Studies. Director of the Cybertech Lab.

Shicho Taku, Assistant Professor of Cybernetics. Windslett's protege.
