Session 6: MIRU’s Hades - kaseido/NeoTokyo GitHub Wiki
304 Rand 1 Sun
They’re in the cafeteria at MIRU, with Rina jacked in.
She sends Lane and Six to pick up the badges at the printer. Rina decides to make a run at Branch Purple. She doesn’t disarm the spider drones, and heads over to Orange, where she gets a full look at the defenses. Rook wonders why they have an electrified floor. Rina: “Maybe they really like playing The Floor Is Lava – that seems like a really good 2 AM event.” She gets a milky tea from the vending machine.
Jiefan notes that there’s a lot of firepower down there that they’ll have to deal with if anything goes wrong: how confident are they that nothing will go wrong?
They all wonder about universities shooting students.
They head down to the basement. Lane acts like she’s leading in a group of students, Rina lowers her hoodie to show off Lara. Nobody notices, and they head over to a workstation. Lara hops down onto the worktable. Rina puts the Dragonfly down, and nudges Lara off the table, to make it look like she just escaped the table.
The Dragonfly is impervious to scans at this level. Lane suggests checking out the secure access door in the back. Rina loudly complains she needs better kit to analyze her project, which is now wandering the lab.
Lane puts her card into the slot on the security door. An alarm goes off.
Lara and Rina dive under somebody else’s table. Rina finds a node and jacks in. The Hellhound gets a shot in, for brain damage, and sets her deck and clothes afire. Lara pats out the fire.
A couple students get hit in crossfire.
Rina turns the defenses off. A student complains, Lane says she’ll call security to get the guards to not show up, but doesn’t. Rina figures out the other branch must control whatever’s behind the security door.
Kestrel patches up the two wounded students and offers to go on a cheese and crackers run for them.
Rina turns off all the defenses in the sub-basement. She gets to work on the Dragonfly, and about 40 minutes in, cracks it. The Dragonfly goes back into the Victoria’s Secret Pocket, gets Lara back back on her shoulder, and they head out.
A Yellow Sand ninja is waiting for them outside the building. He tells them that the Mountain Master doesn’t really care if the Ai is found, so long as no one else has it. But if by some miracle they do find it, turn it over to the Yellow Sand Society, not any Wo Shing Wo – under pain of death. If you do, he’ll square it with the Wo Shing Wo so you still get paid. Really. Honest.
Lane shows them the token from Tardis, and says they’re on Triad business: why should they turn it over to the Yellow Sand Society? The Ninja says one way they live, one way they die.
FACEDOWN!
They stare into each other’s eyes. The Ninja sheathes its swords, turns, and walks off.
Jiefan says “Holy fuck!” She clearly thought you were all going to die a horrible, horrible death there. Rook says “It’s good Lane said she’d do all the talking for us!”
They head home.
Debrief: the pace was right. The standoff between Lane and the Ninja. Lara putting out the fire on Rina’s clothes. Kestrel doing first aid and running errands. It was fun that there were other students up there: they provided a convincing excuse to the medtechs. That was the least boring netrun I’ve run. The players actually like it.
