The Bonsai

It’s a shimpaku juniper, in a pot bearing the traditional inscription, “May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one,” associated with the WW3 Eastern Coalition and the Colony Fleet that settled NeoTokyo.

The registry of historic bonsai now lists its transfer from Bai Wen-Yi to Oshin Kazue.

The tree was planted by one Saburo Arasaka in 1946, and gifted to Prime Minister Nakasone in 1985 after his visit to the Yasukuni war memorial at the end of the Eugenics War. It ended up as a christening gift to Bai Wen-Yi’s parents on his birth, 118 years ago.
