Spell Shards - kaiserbergin/dnd GitHub Wiki
If your class does not cast spells, pick INT, WIS, or CHA. This is the base stat used for casting any spells through spell shards.
Pick STR, DEX, or CON. This will be the spell shard energy source for casting a spell through a spell shard (more details to follow).
Aether shards attuned to a spell cannot function without being fitted in shardweave that is attuned to the user. Spell shards are effectively a free slot, but can only be attuned to one spell at whatever level the spell shard was imbued with.
The numbers:
- A creature may only have 1 piece of spellweave attuned at a time.
- Spellweave can hold at most 3 spell shards
- You may cast any spell through a spell shard affixed to your spell weave at a level equal to your spell casting attribute's modifier as a standard action without incurring additional cost.
- Casting a spell at a level above your spellcasting modifier will cause the caster to lose temporary attribute points in their spell shard energy source attribute. Thus, a player wanting to cast a force 4 spell with CHA as their chosen spell casting attribute and a +2 attribute-based modifier to CHA and a CON shard energy source attribute will lose 2 (4-2) temporary CON attribute points.
- Attribute points drained by casting a spell shard recover after a short rest.
- A spell shard recharges after a long rest.
- 5 is the maximum spell level that can be stored in a spell shard.
