Getting started mac mamp - jzohrab/lute GitHub Wiki
This documentation is deprecated/obsolete. Lute v2 has been replaced by Lute v3, a full Python rewrite. Please see the Lute v3 manual which includes notes on installation. If you have Lute v2, you can easily migrate to v3. Thank you!
The content of this document was stolen with permission from Discord -- thanks @quopquaoi! He also made a YouTube video demonstrating these steps.
If you have a Mac, you can run Lute within MAMP. Apparently, MAMP also works with Windows, though I haven't tried it. From the site: "MAMP is a free, local server environment that can be installed under macOS and Windows with just a few clicks."
-
Download and install the latest version of MAMP: https://www.mamp.info/en/downloads/ . This will include a version of MAMP and MAMP PRO, you only need MAMP (with the grey logo).
-
Run MAMP, and on the main panel, change the PHP version to 8.2.0
-
Get the latest lute_release.zip from https://github.com/jzohrab/lute
-
In MAMP, go to Preferences > Server > and for the Document Root, click “Open in Finder”. Unzip the “lute_release.zip” inside of the htdocs folder, and rename the “lute_release” folder to “lute_2.0.6” (or whichever version you have). You can now delete the “lute_release.zip” inside of htdocs.
-
Again in MAMP, go: Preferences > Server (tab), and for the Document Root now, click "Choose", and select "Applications/MAMP/htdocs/lute_2.0.6/public" as the document root. (or whatever folder you have for your version).
Step 6 is for Japanese learners only.
- Open up the Terminal App on your Mac and type the following 3 commands to install Mecab, install a Mecab dictionary, and set the environment variables so that the MAMP server can find your Mecab installation:
$ brew install mecab
$ brew install mecab-ipadic
$ printf 'export PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin"' >> /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/envvars
-
Start the server. In MAMP, hit the “switch button” on the top right side (it will turn green when it’s started). Then, press the little “airplane button” next to it (that will open the WebStart page in your browser). And, when that opens, select “My Website” at the top of the page ... and you should now be on the LUTE main page within your browser!
-
Extra steps: hopefully everything is running now. You may want to do some extra configuration for backup, security, etc ... see the "Configuration" section in the sidebar.
