In cybersecurity, bias plays an important role in decision making and understanding bias can improve a lot of aspects in the workplace. Here are a few types of bias and some details on them for future reference.
Nonverbal Bias - This comes into play when we keep our own opinions silent and allow the group consensus to reign supreme. It is important to make your voice heard and always include your input in the discussion.
Affinity Bias - When we agree with someone who we grew up with or feel familiar with, we might ignore the opinions of people who we don't know as well. This can lead to good ideas or opinions getting suppressed.
Overconfidence - When we are too confident and believe we are right, we might get tunnel vision and ignore other peoples input.
Attribution Bias - If we fail and blame that failure on others, we face attribution bias. This can be dangerous because understanding your own faults is the key to improving and creating the best version of yourself.
Similarity Bias - When we create a group of people around ourselves who have similar interests and ideas, we might miss important contrasting ideas from other groups of people.
Outcome Bias - Just because you got to the right answer doesn't mean you did it the correct way. Going back and improving your process even after reaching a good conclusion is best practice.
Conservatism Bias - When we refuse to accept new information from our comfortable, old information we may lose sight of improving ourselves based on this new information.
