Among the grosser keyboard I've gotten. It features NMB clicky black space invader switches and dye sublimated PBT keycaps.
The whole keyboard was covered in a hardened waxy gunk that only really disolved in isopropyl alcohol. The majority of the time was spent picking bits of gunk out of the switches themselves.
Underneath everything the board was in pretty good shape. A sous-vide-retrobright brought back the case nicely.
The board ran on 12V power and spoke an XT based terminal protocol. The 12V requirement could be ignored since it just gets regulated down to 5V but the protocol was the real limitation. It does not send key release codes.
The solution was to do a controller swap and directly scan the NKRO matrix with a Teensy++ 2.0 running Soarer's Controller firmware.
