Configuration

To setup an IP SLA, define an operation number and an operation type (applications), and configure a schedule (start and stop) to activate.

! Define an IPSLA with operation # 1 and type of ICMP Echo
ip sla 1
 icmp-echo 1.1.1.1 source-interface Gig1

! Activate by configuring start time and lifetime
ip sla schedule 1 life forever start-time now

Practical Use of IPSLA

Tracking an IPSLA (ping 1.1.1.1) state to log internet connectivity via syslog.

! Define a track of the IP SLA of ping 1.1.1.1
track 1 ip sla 1 reachability

! Configure an EEM applet to log internet connectivity via monitoring the track 1 state
