Raspberry PI hardware

The TIPI/32K design is intended for use with a Raspberry Pi ZeroW, mounted in a board to board configuration. The only required modification is to install the appropriate board to board connector on pins 31 through 40 on the back side of the board.

Samtec

I recommend using the Samtec ESQ-105-23-T-D as it is just the right height to make the Pi's SD card accessible from the speech synthesizer door. This connector comes with the TIPI/32K board.

Door

An optional header can be added to pins 2 and/or 4 to allow the Raspberry Pi to be powered from the TIPI/32K power tap or from an external 5V source.

Jumper

Also, if you want to use the Pi to program the CPLD on the TIPI, you may want to add header pins to pin 7,9,11,13,15, which can then be jumpered over to the JTAG header on the TIPI. Programming details can be found here.

CPLD

Raspberry Pi Zero Ws with the correct connectors pre-soldered on are also also available from Arcade Shopper.

Installing the Raspberry Pi on the TIPI/32K

Simply plug the Pi ZeroW onto the TIPI/32K board with the SD card facing the front of the box. Make sure the pins are aligned as the 10 pin connector can be shifted one row forward or backwards on the header. If you’re powering the PI off the TIPI, connect the jumper from the TIPI/32K power tap to Pin 2 or 4 of the Pi. If the Pi will be powered externally, the jumper should not be placed and a suitable Micro USB power supply should be used.
