Appendix B: DIP Clip Reference Info - jessaskey/fluke900link GitHub Wiki

The DIP Clips that connect between the Interface Buffer and the UUT are documented in the Fluke 900 Technical Specification

Dip Clips:

  • Y900-8D Test Clip, 8 Pin DIP (0.3”)
  • Y900-14D Test Clip, 14 Pin DIP(0.3")
  • Y900-16D Test Clip, 16 Pin DIP (0.3")
  • Y900-20D Test Clip, 20 Pin DIP (0.3”)
  • Y900-24D Test Clip, 24 Pin DIP(0.3”)
  • Y900-24DW Test Clip, 24 Pin DIP (0.3")
  • Y900-28D Test Clip, 26 Pin DIP (0.6”)

S.M.D Clips:

  • Y900-8S Test Clip, 8 Pin S.O.I.C.(0.1”)
  • Y900-14S Test Clip, 14 Pin S.O.I.C.(0.1”)
  • Y900-16S Test Clip, 16Pin S.O.I.C.(0.1”)
  • Y990-16SW Test Clip, 16Pin S.O.I.C.(0.2”)
  • Y900-18S Test Clip, 18 Pin S.O.I.C.(0.2”)
  • Y900-20S Test Clip, 20 Pin S.O.I.C.(0.2”)
  • Y900-24S Test Clip, 24 Pin S.O.I.C.
  • Y900-28S Test Clip, 28 Pin S.O.I.C.

These clips are identified to the Interface Buffer by a set of pin connections internal to the clip, which tells the Fluke 900 the pin count of each clip. This information is useful if you need to modify an existing clip to a different number of pins or if reproductions should be made by someone.

DIP clips are identified by configurations of 6 pins on the interface buffer… pin numbers match the schematics and DIP clip PCB….

The edge connector KEY is on PINS 29 & 30

  • Pin 33/34 – Ground (-)
  • Pin 35 – Select A
  • Pin 36 – Select B
  • Pin 37 – Select C
  • Pin 38 – Select D
  • Pin 39/40 - +5V Pullup (+)

The jist is that each select line is either attached to GND or +5V and they don’t just read the digital level, but rather, they form a voltage through a resistor network (resistors are on the Interface Board (IB)) that then goes into an ADC and they can tell from that Analog value which DIP Clip (pin size) is attached. Seems a bit complicated, but whatever it seems to work.
