What is true power? A billion dollars? A billion doting fans? Immortality? There is a galaxy full of megalomaniacs, each of them trying to exploit a system of exponential growth to outpace his nearest competitors. In relative terms, vanishingly few of them ever achieve this goal. But in absolute terms, there are billions of individuals that are the richest on their planet, or the ruler of the biggest country, or the most-followed populist. Every one of them, every time he thinks he has just conquered ultimate power for himself, discovers that he is just another cog in a larger power structure. The are all ants to TGE.
