The King and the Revolutionary - jeremygillespie/empire GitHub Wiki
The King rules over a planet some twenty-five thousand light years from the center of the Milky Way. His kingdom is threatened by a popular uprising. The king demands too much of his subjects, hoards resources for himself, and brutally punishes dissent, all in the name of God. He is, after all, God’s representative on this planet, endowed with the divine right to rule. Dissent doesn’t just threaten his power, it is an affront to God.
Critics disagree. They have developed a Protestant relationship to God that doesn’t require the king to interpret His will. They think the king has misused God’s name for personal gain. What they don’t know is that everything the king says about God is true.
There is a knowable future date, a Second Coming if you will, when an emissary of TGE will demand that the king deliver an enormous shipment of riches to the center of the galaxy. The king has, in fact, dutifully been hoarding more wealth than the dissenters even suspect. He sometimes puts on extravagant displays of wealth to aid in the explanation of what the peasants have really been working for, but the truth is it’s all going into TGE’s vault.
