Azure Data Box is a service where a Microsoft-provided appliance allows for the upload of large volumes of data to Azure. These services are only available for EA, CSP, and Microsoft Partner Network Sponsorship offer types.
3 variations of Data Box:
- Data Box Disk
- up to 35 TB on up to 5 disks (each disk has a capacity of 8 TB)
- 1 storage account
- Data Box
- up to 100 TB on a ruggedized NAS
- 10 storage accounts
- Data Box Heavy
- up to 1 PB on a ruggedized device
- 10 storage accounts
Workflow
- Order: Use Portal to order a data box by creating a Data Box resource
- Receive: Connect Data Box to network
- Copy data: Mount file shares and copy data to the device.
- Return: to Microsoft
- Upload: Microsoft will upload the data and securely erase it from the device
