Concerns & Implications for the MediBuddy
Health and Safety
MediBuddy is designed as a method of remotely monitoring patients health vitals and such information is critical for health professionals to detect whether or not a patient needs further medical attention. Therefore it is important that any data be accurate and available to monitor, health record security is also extremely important to maintain patient privacy. These three aspects align perfectly the the CIA triad, Confidentiality, Integrity, and Accessibility. To manage this concern we reiterate the fact that this project is purely meant for research and that is should not be used as a reliable medical device. In order for the MediBuddy to be considered for implementation as a medical device it would require further engineering, medical expertise, and rigorous testing before results could be relied on.
Legal
Through out design and implementation we will be making use open-source software and others code. We need to be mindful of the licenses that these programs are protected by and ensure that we are not infringing on any of them. We can foresee using software that allows for research use but not in a for profit device. While we do not intend to turn this in to a business venture it would be helpful to create a record to the programs we use and the licenses protecting them.
Data Security
Medical record privacy is extremely important and any breaches of the data the MediBuddy is designed to ingest could be very bad. There is also the risk with a continuation of sensors that biometrics used for security could be ingested which may provide future vulnerabilities for users.
