Jeet Kune Do favors formlessness so that it can assume all forms and since Jeet Kune Do has no style, it can fit in with all styles. As a result, Jeet Kune Do uses all ways and is bound by none and, likewise, uses any technique or means which serves its end. ~ Tao of Jeet Kune Do

Bruce Lee left us The 5 ways of attack:

  1. SAA - Simple Angle Attack
  2. PIA - Progressive Indirect attack (using distance and change of and curving of lines)
  3. HIA - Hand/Hair Immobilization attack - initiating close combat grappling (no distance no lines)
  4. ABC - Attack By Combination
  5. ABD - Attack By Drawing - when our opponents defense is too balanced.

Defense is derived implicitly.

This division is the proper framework for the Nash equilibrium of conflict in the sense like paper, rock, scissors.

For example if our opponent is too balanced for our various 4 attacks we move to Attack By Drawing. If our opponent then expects us to draw we can simply hit (SAA).

A stop hit happens when our opponent fully commits to leaving an open line to attack us while moving or shifting weight INTO our attack with their full unbridled commitment.

At the highest levels the art is an attempt to induce a 'stop-hit' event which is why it is called "The Way of the Intercepting Fist".

Lee derived these divisions from the same truth that K derived his insights (which Bohm formalized) and Lee (and his son) was said to later have been assassinated for bringing such knowledge to the western world.

The above is the esoteric knowledge.
