There are five different types of domains on the internet:

  • Top-Level Domains:
    • These domains are at the top of the internet hierachy for domain names. they include:
      • .com
      • .website
      • .info
      • .club
      • .org
      • .host
      • .co
      • .net
      • .online
      • .space
      • .me
      • .site
  • Country Code Top Level Domains:
    • These domains are tied to different countries, each owns its own ccTLD.
  • Generic Top-Level Domains:
    • These domains consist of a different variation of a TLD.
  • Second-Level Domains:
    • these domains are below the TLD's in terms of hierarchy, this does not mean they are any less authoritative or valuable.
  • Third Level Domains:
    • These domains are mainly used for creating a subdomain to the existing domain, which can be used for vairous reasons like:
      • Adding a blog
      • Creating a resource section
      • Hosting an app
      • Creating an online store
