Cleaning SLA printed parts - imyownyear/Z-Butt GitHub Wiki
When using SLA resin printed parts it is important to thoroughly clean to part before using platinum silicones to prevent cure inhibition.
Tools and supplies Required
- Nitrile Gloves
- Safety Goggles (If using air compressor)
- 3 x sealable Plastic containers (You won't be able to use these for much other than this afterwards so make sure they're either bought for this or no one cares that your are using them)
- Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
- Liquid Dish soap / detergent
- Ultrasonic cleaner - not necessary but helps a lot, if you can find plastic containers that fit inside the bath you can easily switch them out for each step.
- Air Compressor with blower attachment - not necessary but helps a lot
Cleaning Method
- It is important to wear nitrile gloves throughout, IPA dissolves the resin making it easier to absorb into the skin - SLA resins are an irritant and in some cases can cause a reaction.
- Dirty IPA bath - for 30-60 seconds agitate the parts in IPA this will remove bulk of the liquid resin.
- Air dry using the blower attachment on the air compressor (especially inside the cross of the stem)
- Clean in an ultrasonic bath of water with a few drops of detergent for 15 minutes. (If you don't have an ultrasonic bath continue to agitate the container)
- Rinse with warm water (under the faucet) for 30 sec
- Air dry using the blower.
- Soak in Clean IPA for 5 minutes
- Air dry using the blower.
- Rinse with warm water (under the faucet) for 30 sec
- Air dry using the blower.
- Check inside the stem for any shiny bits of resin. If there is any left, repeat steps 7-10 until clean.
- Allow parts to fully dry before using with silicone - overnight is usually sufficient.
