X Ray - ihsoft/TimberbornMods GitHub Wiki
Overview
X-Ray makes terrain transparent so you can see, select, and manage structures hidden below the surface without changing the visible terrain layer. You can also place buildings underground. The mod works in both the game and the map editor.
This page was last updated for version 1.3.0 on August 14th, 2026.
Activating X-Ray
Use any of these controls:
- Click the X-Ray button in the upper-right corner to toggle the mode.
- Press Ctrl+P to toggle the mode with the default keybinding.
- Hold P to show X-Ray only while the key is held.
- While X-Ray is active, press H briefly to toggle object transparency, or hold H to show transparent objects only while the key is held.
All keybindings can be changed in the game settings.
Appearance settings
The Overlay appearance section of the mod settings includes:
- Color schema - choose a preset, or use Custom to adjust terrain colors, model transparency, glow, terrain visualization, and edge color individually.
- Terrain visualization - choose no overlay, a grid, or terrain contours. Grid and contour modes may take longer to update when the terrain changes.
- Ignore terrain layer cut - show the full terrain mesh in X-Ray mode even when the game's layer visibility tool hides upper levels.
Object transparency
The Object transparency section of the mod settings controls transparent building and plant models:
- Building transparency and Building fill color control how buildings are shown.
- Plant transparency and Plant fill color control how plants are shown.
When object transparency is active, surface buildings become pass-through for selection. This lets the selection tools reach underground objects through structures above them.
Hiding natural resources
The Hide natural resources option is disabled by default. When enabled, it hides trees, bushes, and crops while X-Ray mode is active, making underground structures easier to see and select.
Leaving X-Ray mode restores the natural-resource models unless they are also hidden by the game's own natural-resource visibility control.
