Extensions which can be used to harden your browser

  • NoScript NoScript is a browser extension for Firefox and Tor Browser which blocks executable content (JavaScript primarily) on untrusted websites. NoScript also provides protection against Cross Site Scripting, which is an attack that can be used to hijack your accounts, inject malware, and access sensitive or private data.
  • HTTPS Everywhere

HTTPS Everywhere is an extension for Chromium (Chrome, Edge, Brave) browsers and Firefox which uses its own lists - plus DuckDuckGo's Smarter Encryption - to force sites to use HTTPS, preventing tampering and protecting you sensitive information. Note that HTTPS Everywhere does not create an HTTPS version of sites, it just upgrades sites that already do. If you visit a site that lacks HTTPS - even if it is a static site - leave it immediately and contact the website owner to inform them of the benefits of HTTPS, and that it can even be done for free. HTTPS is needed even for static sites, as it prevents an attacker from injecting malware, and prevents your ISP from spying on you and injecting their own ads. (Comcast does that - if you are using an ISP which injects their own ads into sites, you need to switch to one that does not). As of currently, Firefox includes this feature by default and it can be enabled from about:preferences. If you are using a Chromium browser, HTTPS Everywhere will work only until Google's new Manifest Version 3 passes. Manifest Version 3 will make HTTPS Everywhere useless in Chromium browsers.

  • uBlock Origin

uBlock Origin is a content blocker which uses filter lists to block malware, scams, ads, trackers, and more. uBlock Origin - when in advanced mode - allows you to block or allow any domain from the popup. It also lets you block all images or 3rd party requests (requests to another domain - used for both tracking/malware and legit purposes). If (for some reason) you still want ads to load, you can disable uBlock filters and EasyList via the 3rd party filters tab. I recommend you add Dandelion Sprout's Antimalware. See installing but replace the url with Dandelion Sprout's.
