AssetManager - hpf3/dungeon-generator-release GitHub Wiki

initial view of the asset manager

Overview:

The Asset Manager is the first scene you’ll see when loading the program. You can use it to select an asset pack and preview the cards in that pack by expanding the dropdown lists.

Interface

1. Pack Information

  • Pack Name & Path

    • Displayed at the very top. By default, the base-transparent pack is loaded.
    • If a pack is built-in, it will be labeled (built-in) after the name. Otherwise, you’ll see the path to the pack’s folder.
    • You can change the currently loaded pack anytime by clicking Change Pack in the top-right corner.
  • Pack Details

    • Beneath the pack name, there’s a large text area showing the pack’s description.
    • To the right of that, you’ll see the version number and the author’s name.
    • Note that the version is informational only; it doesn’t affect how the program runs.

2. Card Lists

Below the pack details, you’ll see three wide bars that can be expanded or collapsed by clicking on them. An arrow on the left side indicates their current expansion state:

When you expand a list, each card is displayed with a preview image, so you can quickly verify that your assets are loading correctly. You’ll also see details like the relative path, randomizer weight, and side connection points.

  1. Start List

    • Contains the cards that can appear first in your dungeon (the “root”). Think of these as entrance cards or initial rooms.
  2. General List

    • Holds the bulk of the dungeon’s cards—corridors, rooms, anything that makes up the main body of the layout.
  3. End List

    • Contains “goal” or “exit” cards. These replace dead-end nodes in the dungeon and can serve as a final room or stairway to another level.

3. Navigation & Actions

On the right side below the lists, you’ll see three main buttons:

  • Editor
    • Opens the Asset Editor, where you can modify or create new asset packs.
  • Start
    • Opens the Generator and immediately begins generating a new dungeon using the currently selected pack.
  • About
    • Displays version information for the program along with links to this wiki, the GitHub issues page (for reporting bugs), and the downloads/releases page.

4. Update Notifications

  • If a newer release is available, a pop-up will appear on startup. You can check a box to prevent this notification from appearing again until you update.

Tips & Notes

  • The program tries to load the last-used pack at launch. If that pack is missing or has problems, you might see a “placeholder” pack. Just select another pack if this happens.
  • The Generator only starts if the pack meets these conditions:
    1. At least one card in each category (Start, General, End).
    2. There is at least one “dead-end” card in the General category.
    3. Cards in the End category have only one connection.

They replace dead-ends in the dungeon, so they must also be dead-ends.

    1. Every card has at least one connection.

That’s all you need to know to get started with the Asset Manager interface! For more details on how to edit packs or create new ones, head to the Asset Editor page.
