Connecting HP LaserJet 1100 to USB - hpaluch/hpaluch.github.io GitHub Wiki
I'm very satisfied user of HP LaserJet 1100 printer (it was made in '90 when quality was more important than today).
However there is one drawback: it requires parallel port (also known as LPT device in Windows) which is no longer available on today PCs. Fortunately I have luck with following Hardware and Software:
- HP LaserJet 1100 printer (obviously), with DB25 printer cable
- OEM USB --> LPT (FD25) converter - this little device did the trick
- Optional: AXAGON HUE-S1B USB 3.0 QUATTRO hub - I use it to have enough number of USB 3.0 (compatible with 2.0 and 1.1 ) ports on my ZOTAC ZBOX CI327 Nano Windows
- Windows 10 Home N, Build 15063 (use command
ver
to find your Windows build number)
Setup in Windows 10
Setup was trivial:
- switch everything off and disconnect from Power socket
- connect printer to OEM USB --> LPT (FD25) converter
- connect OEM USB --> LPT (FD25) converter to USB port of your PC
- power on Printer
- power on Your PC
After a while Windows 10 installed all required drivers and reported (in Action Center - that bubble icon on right down corner) that HP LaserJet 1100 (MS) driver was successfully installed.
WARNING!
As of 2022-12 Microsoft REMOVED
HP LaserJet 1100 (MS)
driver from official Windows distribution (that's really great "innovation"!). However if you are lucky you can still find it here:

To install it - unpack downloaded CAB (for example, using Total Commander) file and when asked for driver use
Have Disk...
and point it to unpacked directory This fixed it for me :-)
Tested printing PDFs in PDF-XChange Viewer version 2.5 FREE. Even printing speed matched speed of my older PC with parallel port.
