Overview
Patient demographic reference lists (Religion, Blood Group, Civil Status, Occupation, Race) are managed by a system administrator through the Manage Items / Services administration page. These lists appear as dropdown options on the patient registration and edit form, and on the inpatient admission form.
Only users with the AdminItems privilege can access this area.
Step-by-Step: How to Access
- Click Administration in the main menu.
- Click Manage Items / Services.
- In the left panel, open the Metadata tab (click to expand if collapsed).
- Click the button for the list you want to manage:
| Button | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Religions | Religion options on the patient form |
| Blood Groups | Blood group options (e.g. A+, B−, O+, AB+) |
| Civil Statuses | Civil status options (e.g. Single, Married, Widowed, Divorced) |
| Occupations | Occupation / employment options |
| Races | Race / ethnicity options |
The Manage Clinical Entities page opens, pre-filtered to that specific type.
Adding a New Entry
- Click the appropriate button from the Metadata tab (e.g. Blood Groups).
- On the Manage Clinical Entities page, click Add.
- Enter the Name (required) and Code (optional but recommended for reports).
- The Type field is pre-filled — do not change it.
- Click Save.
The new entry will immediately appear in the dropdown on the patient form.
Editing an Entry
- Select the entry from the list on the left side of the page.
- Update the Name or Code in the detail panel on the right.
- Click Save.
Deleting an Entry
- Select the entry from the list.
- Click Delete.
Deleted entries are soft-deleted (marked as retired) and will no longer appear in patient forms. Existing patient records that already use the deleted entry are not affected.
Note for registration staff: If a required option is not available in a dropdown on the patient registration page, please ask your system administrator (super user) to add it by following the steps above.
