🎛️ Run Types & Modules - heinsch-fa/behave-app GitHub Wiki

📖 In This Section

  • Core Objective: Select a modeling configuration and understand how Behave7 groups calculation formulas.
  • Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes.
  • Prerequisites: Review 🧭 Workflows & Navigation to pick your basic setup and Run Type.

🧭 Functional Overview

Run Types dictate what models are included in your analysis and filter which inputs are required. Behave7 reduces software clutter by condensing legacy BehavePlus v6 calculations into four consolidated mathematical modules.

🛠️ Step-by-Step Instructions

1️⃣ Selecting Your Modeling Framework

Isolate the specific fire physics equations required for your objective.

  • Action Required: From the setup screen, select one of the four available Run Types, then click Next.
  • Important Detail: You must select at least one explicit Output checkbox on the following screens before the system will unlock the dynamic Inputs data fields.

2️⃣ Identifying Automatic Outputs

Understand why certain variables are calculated without user selection.

  • Important Detail: System modules automatically calculate foundational variables (primarily in mortality and containment). These essential metrics bypass the explicit selection panels and will always generate in your final report.

🖼️ User Interface

Select a Run

🔍 Run Selection

  • Surface Only: Calculates core spread variables, size tracking (area/perimeter), and pile/wind-driven spotting limits.
    • New Feature: Wind-driven spotting model strictly validate grass configurations and automatically filter compatible fuel models.
  • Surface & Crown: Combines surface fire calculations with active/torching canopy crown spread equations.
    • New Feature: Fire behavior metrics are automatically structured and reported by active Fire Type.
  • Surface & Mortality: Simulates first-order fire effects on local timber profiles.
    • New Feature: Surface parameters are user-selected; tree death probability metrics automatically are generated.
  • Surface & Contain: Estimates wildland containment tracking thresholds and resource timelines.
    • New Feature: Features a new "Minimum Fireline Production Required" calculation to help identify required contingency resources.

🔍 System-Wide Color Scheme

Behave7 visually color-codes calculation categories across every input tab, output table line, and workflow indicator bar to speed up data tracking.

  • SURFACE module color is light green Surface Module: Identified by clean light green interface accents.
  • CROWN module color is peach Crown Module: Identified by soft peach interface accents.
  • MORTALITY module is tan Mortality Module: Identified by muted brown interface accents.
  • CONTAIN module is pink Contain Module: Identified by distinct pink interface accents.
