CVBS Composite Decode - harrypm/vhs-decode GitHub Wiki

CVBS an abrevation,

Composite Video Baseband Signal. (also lesser used: color, video, blanking, and sync)

S-Video is just Lumanance in Baseband and Chromance modulated this minimises colour interference during transport in a 4-pin and shielded S-Video cable or 2 BNC cables then the chroma is demodulated at the input device level, there are 3 versions of this standard.

Baseband means a de-modulated signal off a recorded medium or a non-modulated live signal directly off a camera or media generation device.

Baseband signals are ready for direct use for audio this means a speaker and for video used to be an analogue video tubes CRT's in an analogue TV set now its an analogue to digital converter

Composite analogue video signals have been used from the pre-digital era to early digital equipment, developed in the 1950s and in full use from the 1960s to even today analogue systems using the Yellow RCA jack on consumer equipment and a BNC jack on prosumer/broadcast equipment.

Capturing RAW CVBS

CVBS Decode is similar to LD-Decode as it is a single .TBC file.

This decoder is a combination of VHS-Decode and LD-Decodes programming and requires extra steps to work fully.

Currently, despite being experimental this decoder will work just fine with stable signals and live media.

Capturing however is another issue as the DomesDayDuplicator's input filtering is not suited for said signal range (C401 Ideally needs to be an 3.3uf capacitor), and the CX cards are built for those signals so switch out of raw output mode automatically.

Currently, the only proven effective way to capture composite is to use a T adapter and feed a secondary signal via waveform generator to keep CX cards in raw output mode, then in post to low pass filter it and then process the signal with CVBS decode.
