Structure
Please organize your Figma presentations using the following structure.
- State the problem you are solving.
- List different questions that arise when resolving the problem.
- List different solutions for each question.
- List the pros and cons of each solution.
- Recommend one or two solutions and explain why you chose them.
Guidelines
In using words to describe your solution, the audience is forced to imagine the visuals and interactions. This causes multiple issues.
- It imposes a cognitive load on the audience.
- In the act of translating your explanation to a mental model, miscommunication is likely.
- A lot of time is spent by the audience asking questions to confirm their understanding of your solution.
A solution to all of these problems is simply to make a mockup.
If the solution involves interactivity, then a mockup will not be enough because it will induce all of the above problems, only for interactivity instead of for visuals.
A solution to those problems is a prototype.
In other words: prototypes > mockups > words
Prototypes are a lot of work compared to just making mockups, and mockups are a lot of work compared to just talking. But by putting in the work, you are removing the work your audience will have to do to understand your solution, and thus are more likely to have a more productive conversation with them about it.
