Expunge Assist helps Californians clear eligible criminal records — opening doors to employment, housing, and education.

We're looking for UX Designers to help shape a new version of the tool.

👩‍💻 What You’ll Work On

You’ll contribute to meaningful, user-driven work, including:

  • Assisting with design concept development, interaction design, and visual design
  • Mapping user flows and creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
  • Defining early product concepts, high-level workflows, and micro-interactions
  • Executing crisp, effective visual design using our design system
  • Collaborating with the Product, Content, Research, and Development teams
  • Documenting your work and contributing to our growing Figma-based design system

Your work will directly improve how users navigate the expungement process.

Q: What is Expunge Assist?
A: Expunge Assist is a free digital tool that helps Californians with arrest or conviction histories determine eligibility and understand how to clear their records.

Q: What kind of design work will I do?
A: You’ll be involved in all stages of the UX process — from early ideation to high-fidelity mockups. You'll help define features, refine user flows, and ensure a consistent, accessible experience. You’ll design and prototype in Figma, and contribute to both the product and our design system.

Q: Who can join?
A: Anyone with UX design experience and proficiency in Figma.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience working with a design system
  • Worked on enterprise-scale products or teams

Q: What’s the time commitment?
A: Minimum of 6 hours/week, fully remote and flexible.
