Encouraging Words

"I think the graphics are clear, nice, understandable. looks intuitive"
"We need to build more tools [like this] that give NCs information they can use in CIS submittals to the City Council"

Workshop Survey Rating: 10/10

Most useful:
"I like the graphics, I think the comparison tool will be very helpful and fun to use"
"The ability to generate a report based on frequency of SR filings within each NC"
"The demo of the first app (mapping tool of 311 requests)"

Features Committed

  • Make Site ADA compliant
  • Comply with CCPA and other Legal Requirements
  • Ensure scales are clear on heatmap / cloroplath map
  • When you hit submit, map should zoom to the area selected. If switching between data and map views it should be on this zoom until map is manually adjusted. (E.G.: If user selects West Adams while in the data section, and then switches to the map, it should be zoomed to West Adams)
  • Add legend for map that is included on the image export
  • Normalize data in comparison tool (E.G. when comparing City Council to Neighborhood Councils)
  • Auto-adjust heatmap for area highlighted to ensure contrast between areas. (E.G.: Bulky Items in West Adams)

Features Requested (but will be lower priority than the above)

  • Connect Report Export Tool with Map (integrate into app)
  • Allow view where pins are small dots and displayed a higher zoom without clustering

Note: We will not be displaying COVID testing locations since this is being managed by the County of Los Angeles.

Partnership Opportunities We Should Investigate

  • Empower LA: Improve website to connect training, DB, and website
  • Build More Tools that Get Useful Data to NCs
  • Setup Digital Communication Toolkit for Neighborhood Councils so they don't need to setup their own platforms to communicate with the public.
  • City of Los Angeles: Improve 311 Request tracking so users more clearly know what is happening with the request as well as with the regulations (and other blockers) that hold back the department from fulfilling the request

Next Steps

  • Build the features above needed to go live to the public
  • Work with EmpowerLA on 311 app roll out strategy
  • Continue partnering with NCs to get them the data they need
  • Explore additional partnership opportunities with EmpowerLA
  • Reach out to appropriate departments to gauge interest in improving citizen awareness about their services
  • Go live
