CIDR
CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) is a modern IP addressing method used to allocate IP addresses efficiently and improve internet routing. Before CIDR was introduced, IP addresses were divided into fixed classes such as Class A, Class B, and Class C. This class-based system often led to a large waste of IP addresses because organizations received more addresses than they actually needed. CIDR solves this problem by allowing networks to be created in different sizes according to actual requirements. It uses a slash (/) notation after the IP address, such as** 10.0.0.0/8 or 192.168.1.0/24.** The number after the slash indicates how many bits are used for the Network ID, while the remaining bits are available for Host IDs.
For example::- 10.0.0.0/8 8 bits are used for the Network ID. 24 bits are used for Host IDs. This creates a very large network with millions of IP addresses.
192.168.1.0/24 24 bits are used for the Network ID. 8 bits are used for Host IDs. This network contains 256 IP addresses. CIDR helps network administrators design networks more efficiently, reduce IP address wastage, and simplify routing tables. It is widely used in modern networking, cloud computing, and internet infrastructure. CIDR is a flexible and efficient IP addressing technique that allows networks to be divided according to specific needs. It reduces the wastage of IP addresses, improves routing efficiency, and makes network management easier. For these reasons, CIDR has become a fundamental part of modern computer networking.
IP SUBNETTING...
IP Subnetting is a networking technique used to split a large network into smaller subnetworks. It helps in better IP address management, improves network performance, increases security, and allows efficient use of available IP addresses. It is widely used in enterprise networks, data centers, and cloud environments.
