Telnet vs Ping...

TELNET ::- It is Used to check the Connectivity on the Different servers with the help of Pvt IP & Port.

           In simple way it's the combination of (PRIVATE.IP & PORT)

1.) Telnet can be used to check weather a specific TCP port is reachable..

2.) It is useful for checking services like SSH 22 , HTTP 80 , HTTPS 443 etc.

3.) Telnet works with TCP... Ex::- telnet 10.0.0.10 22

4.) If the connection is successful ,the port is reachable...

5.) If the connection fails , the port may be blocked , the services may be not running or routing/security rules my be incorrect...

PING ::- PING is a command to check the protocol..(To check the connections between the server / two way communication ).

          (Not reliable in Industry.)

     1.) Mainly use to check the Basic Network connectivity...

     2.) IT uses the ICMP protocol..

     3.) Ping does not use a TCP/UDP port.

     4.) It sends an ICMP Echo request and expects an ICMP Echo reply.

     5.) If you get a reply , it generally means the destination is reachable through the Network.
          Ex ::- ping 10.0.0.10

Finally..

   PING Checks the Basic connectivity using ICMP between the servers..

   TELNET checks the connectivity on the Different servers with the help of the Private IP & Port..
