To Connect a server using PUTTY, we normally need it's IP address, private key and Username.. for a private instance, we cannot connect directly because it does not have a Public IP address. So we connect to the Jump/Bastion server, which has a public IP, and then from the Jump server we connect to the private instance using it's private IP..

For, this LAB, I have a private instance named amazon_server. IT has a private IP address that can be used for communication inside the network...

Now, Lets connect to the private instance step by step....

Creating a Directory and Store the SSH Private Key...

Create a directory on the Jump Server to store the SSH private key securely.

mkdir keys

Now creating a file with the .pem extension. Paste the private key content into the file and save it.

cd keys

vi privatekey.pem

ls -lrth

chmod 600 privatekey.pem

ls -lrth

ssh -i /root/keys/privatekey.pem [email protected]

Working succesfully...(Jump Server.)
