LAB 17 ::‐ Object Storage Configuration ? - guptasanjeev-52/oci_docs GitHub Wiki

TYPES OF STORAGES IN SHORT BRIEF...

There are THREE Types of Storages in OCI...
   1.) BOOT VOLUME.
   2.) BLOCK VOLUME.
   3.) OBJECT / ARCHIEVE STORAGE..

Firstly , there are TWO types of DATA... (STRUCTURED & UNSTRUCTURED)

1.) STRUCTURED DATA ::- In structured data the data is always in the format of FILES & FOLDERS and It is always stored in Block volume (ROM of VIRTUAL COMPUTER).

2.) UNSTRUCTURED DATA ::- In unstructured data the data is in the form of NO-FORMAT MODE.(** Images , PDF , ZIP FILES , files & Folders** as well.)

OBJECT STORAGE/ ARCHIEVE STORAGE..

**OBJECT STORAGE is a cloud Storage service that stores Unstructured Data as Object inside Buckets. **
**It is highly Scalable , Durable and main thing very low cost service , all kind of Ideal Backups , archives , media , files & Documents are Stored.**

Follow Step-by-Step: Create Bucket

Step 1: Login to OCI Console...

Burger menu > Storage > Object Storage & Archive Storage > Buckets

Click Create bucket

Give the NAME & Following Details.

Namespace::- Default value is NAMESPACE. Bucket scope as NAMESPACE means that the bucket is unique only in the owning namespace/tenancy. Other tenancies can have a bucket with same name in their namespace. To find your namespace navigate to tenancy details and find Object storage namespace.

Region::- Bucket scope as REGION means that the bucket is regionally unique. No other tenancy can have a bucket with same name and scope REGION.

Standard::- The Standard storage tier is "hot" storage used for data that you need to access quickly, immediately, and frequently.

Archive::- The Archive Storage tier is "cold" storage used for rarely access, but that must be retained and preserved for long periods of time.

OR

Object versioning ::- if we Enable it then when we are saving the files in which one is already exists both Modified and Unmodified new/old Data will remain safe...(It will not overwrite.)

Emit object events (IMP) ::- Whenever anyone {upload / Edit / Delete} it will give Notification anything happens to Data.

Uncommitted multipart uploads cleanup ::- If you are uploading a large Data file and it is not uploaded in one GO then it will help and will upload in parts in chunks form. Main thing it will not lose / encrypt the Data.

By default we go with It.

Click Create bucket.

Hence Bucket is successfully created..

Step 2 : Upload Object (File).

Bucket details (medical_bucket) >>> Objects

Click Upload objects

File uploaded Successfully...

Click on the NEXT and On Review Option Check and click on the Upload Object

**Click on the Upload Object **

Hence , Uploading file in the object storage successfully Done..

Step 3::- Creating Pre-Authenticated Request (PAR).

A PAR allows users to access or upload objects without having OCI credentials. It is a time-limited, secure URL. Used to share private objects securely without login.

open Buckets >> Management >> Go to Pre-Authenticated Requests >> Click Create Pre-Authenticated Request.

Fill up The Name...

• Pre-authenticated request target:

Bucket (all objects)::- This option creates a request that grants access to every object currently stored within the entire bucket

Object (specific file)::- This option creates a request that applies strictly to one specific individual file or object.

Objects with prefix::- This option creates a request that applies to all objects whose names begin with a specific string or folder path.

• Access type:

Permit object reads::- This allows the user to view or download objects, but they cannot upload new files or modify existing ones.

Permit object writes::- This allows the user to upload new objects to the bucket, but they cannot see or download what is already there.

Permit object reads and writes::- This provides full access to both download existing data and upload new data using the same request URL.

• Expiration Date is compulsory to set..

Click Create pre-authenticated request

Pre-authenticated request details page will now show up from there copy Pre-authenticated request URL for your records. It will not be shown again and click Close

Now you can paste that URL in browser and it will open that object

Step 4 ::- Creating Lifecycle Policy Rules..

Lifecycle management helps you reduce costs by automating the movement or deletion of data. Automate storage cost management.

Open Bucket >> Go to policies >> Go to Lifecycle Policy Rules >> Click Create Rule.

FIXING ERROR

Allow service objectstorage-us-ashburn-1 to manage object-family in tenancy

Fill up the Details & parameters.

** Target:**

Objects ::- This targets the actual files stored in your bucket, allowing you to automatically transition them to different storage tiers or delete them after a set time.

Uncommitted multipart uploads ::- This targets failed or incomplete file uploads that are taking up space; the rule can automatically clean these up to prevent unnecessary storage costs.

• Lifecycle Action::- Move to Archive

Lifecycle policy rules created Successfully...

Step 5::- Creating Retention Rule..

Retention rules are for Compliance and Security. They prevent objects from being deleted or modified, even by an administrator. Protect objects from deletion/modification (compliance/legal use)

Open Bucket >>> Go to Policies >>> Go to Retention Rules >>> Click Create Retention Rule..

Fill up the Details & parameters.

Select Retention Rule Type..

Time-bound::- Object modification is prevented for the retention duration you specify.

Indefinite::- Object modification is prevented until you delete the retention rule.

The retention duration that you specify is applied to each object individually, and is based on the object's last modified timestamp.

Click on CREATE..

Hence Created...

Optional::- Lock the Rule

After testing, you can click Lock then you Cannot delete objects before expiry & also Cannot modify rule. Once locked, rule cannot be removed or changed.

THANKYOU!
