Analyze imaging data with spatial-temporal patterns.

Basic idea:

  • wave is a collective behaviour of interactive dynamical units.
  • analyzing wave properties could start with analyzing each individual unit's dynamics and their spatial-temporal correlation:
  1. when wave path through, the unit shows a bump.
  2. the nearby units show a similar shape of bumps with different time shifts (dt).
  3. calculate dt in all directions. Maximum one defines the propagation direction.
  4. peak-to-peak dt along the propagation direction define the wave speed.
  5. multiply the duration of unit's bump with wave speed, get the width of the wave.
  6. wave's source (or sink) should have dt in all direction with the same sign.
  • this analysis method should be scale-free, both on the spatial and temporal domain.
