How to enable a router port.

To assign a port on a router to a specific network you must follow these steps. First, be sure you know the IP and subnet mask of the device and no which port of the router the device is connected to. After that simply click on the router, go to the config tab, and from here along the left side is a list of configuration options. From this list look at the interface section and select the FastEthernet port you connected the device to. From here simply assign the same Subnet Mask as the device, and the same IP address except for the last increment of it is 250 instead. Finally, be sure to check the box at the top of the window signifying that port status is on.

How to save configurations on routers

First, make sure you are in Real-Time mode (indicated by the clock icon labeled REALTIME). Secondly, click the Router, go to the Config Tab once again, but this time stay in the global settings section it defaults to. In this section, there is a category labeled NVRAM, click the save button under it. Note that this is equivalent to the IOS command: copy running-config startup-config. To test this out go back to the Physical Tab of the window and use the power button to turn off the router. Note: You'll probably have to soon in on the display of the back of the ROuter to find the power switch, it's usually towards the right and looks like a normal power switch.

After this simply click the Power back on by clicking the button again and go back to the interfaces to see if they kept the data from the previous configuration even after shutting down.
