What is Album?

• Album is a social media platform created by someone who hates social media.

• Why do I hate social media?

  • Social media is the best way to compare yourself to others. And as President Theodore Roosevelt once said -- "Comparison is the thief of joy,”
  • Social media can also steal your life away, hence the terms "doomscroll" AND "brain rot".

• Now there are multiple ways you can milly rock your mind via the main social media apps:

  1. Comparing number of Likes, Comments, Followers, etc.
  2. Comparing how other peoples lives are to yours (hint: almost everyones life on social media aint real)
  3. Doomscrolling. Spending hours watching funny, but time wasting videos.

I know that I can only control 2 of these, 1 and 3. Number 2 is something that I cant control.

Here's the problem:

• Those things (Likes, Comments, Followers, Comparison, and Shorts) are also how these social media apps keep you on them. How? Dopamine (referred to as HELL YEAH from here on out).
  • When you get a like: HELL YEAH
  • When someone comments on your post: HELL YEAH
  • When you get another follower: HELL YEAH
  • When you have more of any of those items than one of your friends: HEEELLLLL YEAAAHHHHH

SO HOW TF AM I GOING TO MAKE MY APP GIVE YOU THAT "HELL YEAH" WITHOUT ALL OF THE STUPID COMPARISON AND TIME WASTING SHIT????

OBSERVE: First of all: shorts... GONE. None of that doomscroll shortform BS content. This platform is NOT for that. It is for people to post funny, heartwarming, adventureous stuff about THEIR LIVES. Yes you can create business accounts, dont fret. But meme accounts, funny video accounts, etc. NAH So that solves item number 3: Doomscrolling and brain rot.

How will this be managed? YOU. the people on my app are those who downloaded it to ESCAPE the mainstream apps, so if you see a meme, or a short, REPORT IT, thanks:)

Now for the 1st item: Comparing numbers. There is only so much i can do about this...

My initial thought was ok those things: likes, comments, reposts, etc. They all still exist, BUT only you can see them, which is a pretty good idea.

Then i did a VERY VERY deep dive into a rabbit hold on how to give HELL YEAH's to people, without those numbers. Alot of the things i found were boring just reading about them others might just work... some examples:

• animations: you post something you get confetti on your screen... childish but not bad
• haptic feedback: this is simple and cool, definently gonna be a thing.
• ai comments and messages: no body wants AI looking at their image and saying DAYUM SHAWTY YOU LOOK FINNNEEEE. Or hopping on the app and ai saying "Hey, you are super cool. Keep up the good work" BOOORRRINNNGGG and pretty weird.
• Awards: CONGRATS YOU HAVE ADDED 100 pics to this album, or "CONGRATS ON YOUR ONE YEAR OF BEING ON THIS APP" not to bad but still i dont think it is enough. I will definently implement this somewhere, maybe in collaboration (i will talk about this later on)

SO HERE IS WHAT I DECIDED ON:

• animations: you will get little animations when you reach milestones, like 100 pics posted, or something like that

• haptic feedback: little haptics will play on things like reacting to someones post (more on this in a sec), you adding new photos, etc.

• ai comments and messages: nah

• Awards: again this will be a album specific and user specific thing. creating 10 albums, adding 100 photos to an album, adding photos everyday for 10,50,100 days. Stuff like that. Not 1000 likes, 2000 followers, etc.

• HERE IS THE CROWN JULE: REACTIONS: people can react on your post with any emoji. BUT this does not show publicly, only you can see it. Also you CANNOT see how many reactions you have gotten in any way.

Ok now that i have explained why my app is different, here is what my app is, because there are plenty of other ways that it is differnt from normal social media apps.

1. Albums

on your profile you have albums, these are exaclty what they sounds like, albums. Disneyland Trip?? ALBUM New baby?? ALBUM New car?? ALBUM

oh but hey, you dont wanna flood your profile with 1.2 million albums, here, create folders Travel Home Kids etc.

Now here is another HUGE difference between album and insta... i cant even say it.

NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE EITHER PUBLIC OR PRIVATE, YOU GET TO CHOOSE EACH AND EVERY IMAGE.

so when you create an album you can have it be private or public

hey z, what if i create a public album, doesnt that mean everything in it is going to be public? no sirry. in public albums when you post something you can choose: if you even want a post to be made, and which photos/videos that you are adding you want to be public vs private.

in private albums, everythign is private, always.

wanna have other people add to your albums? Fine jeez you convinced me: #collaborationbaby

you can invite people to add to your private or public albums, creating a huge space for people to share fun things.

yes in public collab albums you can select if an image should be shows publicly, privatly to collaborators, or priavatly only you.

also when you create a post, it posts a stack of photos, reactions/comments are not added to the stack but to the image/video they are added to. cool huh
