The SD Card is by default enabled but if you have no need for it you can free up its select line for use by other shields or hardware resources. To do this you will need to carefully remove the solder link blob associated with the row of pads marked as shown.

If the current select line is needed by some other resource but you still want to be able to use the SD Card, you can re assign the select line to another control line/pin.
