(exhibit by fiskeorn)

Cockatoos are medium-sized parrots native to Australia and Oceania. In the ZAWA mod, they spawn in arid and forested biomes. As of version 2.1, if provoked, wild cockatoos will attack players.

In version 2.1, they received a model update and several new species variants.

Summary

Cockatoos are tamed with Bird Kibble and bred with Bird Vials.

Cockatoos are considered to have a normal activity level.

Spawning

Without additional mods installed, cockatoos will spawn in desert, forest, savanna and jungle biomes, including hills and mutated variants. Cockatoos will spawn in a group of at least 4 and at most 6.

With other biome mods installed, cockatoos will, by default, spawn in similar wooded and scrub biomes.

Care

Tamed cockatoos can use the Brush, Ball, Tire Swing and Bird Perch enrichments.

Cockatoos eat a Parrot-type diet.

Cockatoos can fly, so their enclosures should be covered in glass or grates.

Variants

As of version 2.1, cockatoos have 10 species variants, some of which are sexually dimorphic. They can be split into two groups: long-crested, and short-crested. Most short-crested cockatoos have different male and female textures, and the darker colored ones can be identified by the color under their tail.

  • Variant 0 is the sulfur-crested cockatoo. They are white with a yellow crest and wings.
  • Variant 1 is the palm cockatoo. They are dark blue with a pink face.
  • Variant 2 is the Moluccan cockatoo. They are white with a salmon pink crest.
  • Variant 3 is the Major Mitchell's cockatoo. They are pink with white wings and a white and red crest.
  • Variant 4 is the umbrella cockatoo. They are all white.
  • Variant 5 is the galah. They are pink with gray wings and a cream-colored crest.
  • Variant 6 is the red-tailed black cockatoo. They are sexually dimorphic: the male is all black, and the female is black with gold spots. Both have red tails, but the female's has orange and yellow stripes.
  • Variant 7 is the yellow-tailed black cockatoo. They are sexually dimorphic: the male is mostly black with a red eye ring, and the female has lighter spots on the chest and wings, as well as having a dark eye ring. Both have bright yellow cheeks and a yellow tail.
  • Variant 8 is the Carnaby's black cockatoo, or white-cheeked cockatoo. They are sexually dimorphic: the male is mostly black, and the female has lighter spots on the chest and tail. Both have a white tail and cheeks.
  • Variant 9 is the gang-gang cockatoo. They are sexually dimorphic: the male is gray with a bright red head, while the female is pink-gray.
