The African lion is a savanna-dwelling big cat. Unlike other cats, lions live and spawn in groups. Wild lions are aggressive towards players. They will also attack Grevy's zebras, reticulated giraffes, common and pygmy hippopotamuses, as well as most vanilla mobs (including NPCs.) Because they spawn in groups, and deal heavy damage, lions should be avoided by unprepared players.

African lions are tamed with Big Cat Kibble and bred with Big Cat Vials.

Lions have a normal activity level.

Lions have a plush counterpart.

Spawning

Without additional mods installed, African lions will spawn in desert and savanna biomes, including hills and mutated variants. Lions will always spawn in a group of 2-4.

With other biome mods installed, lions will, by default, spawn in similar dry, grassy biomes.

Care

Tamed lions can use the Brush, Zebra Pinata, Ball, Tire Swing and Scratching Post enrichments.

Lions eat a Large carnivore-type diet.

Variants

Lions have twelve total variants, six for each sex. Male lions have a large, thick mane that is usually darker than their body. There is also an easter egg variant available.

Drops

When killed, lions can drop Thick Fur and Carnivore Meat.
