Playtest 1 - gcubsfan08/QuakeMultiplayerLevel GitHub Wiki

I had playtested my first draft of my greybox and had the players fill out a survey. Down below is a visualization of some survey highlights.

Some key takeaways of some things that I need to fix are shorten the size of the map, create interesting ruins, redesign the bridges leading to the cross room, create pits in the water, and try to create a spiraling staircase.

Shorten size of the map

-I plan to address this by instead of having my second floor be all open space, I will either add a wall in between all of the open space or shorten the floor and add stairs on either or both sides of the second floor, to make it more accessible.

Create interesting ruins

-For as far as the structure of statues is concerned, I will use what I learned from the tutorial videos in creating interesting geometry that will make sense with the theme that I am trying to set up in the level. The trim tool and clipping tool will be the most useful in creating them.

Redesign the bridges leading to the cross room

-In my cross room, there are a bunch of bridges that do not have an aesthetic to them, as the players can even get caught and stuck in between some of the brushes. My goal is to create different shapes and have it where it makes sense to the players, not having it be a challenge just to cross that body of water.

Create pits in the water

-I want to create pits and curves between the ground and water, as that will make it a lot more realistic pertaining to my cave level. I plan on doing that by manipulating the terrain by using the vertex editor.

Try to create a spiraling staircase

-This might be one of the toughest technically speaking, but creating a winding staircase from the first floor and the second floor is something that I plan on doing by adjusting vertices and brushes.
