The template was designed out of frustration with the current set of design practices with regards to skinning for Winamp. While modern skins are unique and in many cases very flexible with limitless potential; the same is not true for classic skins. They are easily simplistic and also very inflexible in their design. However, what they lack in complexity and UI smoothness they make up for in their author's capability to extend the area and look into something more than what the box holds.

With this new template system the idea is to provide the Winamp 3 skinning engine system over to the Winamp classic skins. While not completely a unique idea; it is setup so that creators can use and benefit for the simplistic approach while creating graphics that are more inline with what modern graphic systems can handle. Namely png/alpha/channel masks and more.
