The Black Thumbs are a secretive society of torturers employed by the highest bidder. Their primary goal is not to extract information but to slowly kill a person in the most painful manner possible. Rumors of their existence are widespread but few real facts are actually known about them.

Members of the Black Thumbs are initiated during early childhood. Male orphans are plucked from the streets, desensitised and trained for their entire childhood. The result is a very tight knit band of brothers with extremely sadistic tendencies. If any member is ever in peril, the others band together to save the one at all cost. They are often viewed as assassins because their techniques for rescue often implore the use of stealth, poison and extremely lethal martial techniques. Members of the Black Thumbs who attempt to leave are hunted down and killed. There are very few people who have managed to escape their grasp.

It is commonly believed that the name the Black Thumbs is because the members dye their entire thumbs in black ink. However, the truth is they are called the Black Thumbs because of the small black spot most of them have on the inside of their thumbs caused by repeatedly pushing poison tipped needles into their victims with their thumbs. A small amount of the poison usually ends up on their skin during this procedure, which, over time, causes the skin on a small spot on their thumb to die and turn black
