Nilathbel - garnex/faro GitHub Wiki

Nilathbel sits on the Island of Wallander which is in the center of the Red Swine River, just short of the Mountains of Rust.

General Information

The city sits atop a small hill in the center of towering redwood forests. Unlike most cities and fortresses, the land directly surrounding the city has not been cleared away, in contrast massive redwoods live within 50ft of the city walls. Because of the thick vegetation and high trees, the city is not visible from a great distance even though it sits atop a hill and sports towers in excess of 100ft tall.

The city is over a mile from the river in any direction but has a direct connection via an underground natural cave, which is shallow but can easily handle the standard sized flat boats that frequent the river.

Description

A massive thirty foot wall covered in green moss surrounds the majority of the city. Three gates give access to nearby farmers, foragers and traders. From outside the city, a handful of white towers can be seen poking out behind the walls.

Homes outside the city are nearly unnoticeable to normal people until they look high up into the trees. Most home outside the city sit 100ft into the air amongst the redwood trees. The people of these homes tend vertical farms of a variety of vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, fungus and legumes.

The inside of the city consists of hundreds of tightly packed homes with dozens of towers interspersed throughout the city. The homes are made of white stone, many built into living trees. Every tower is designed differently with some standing an impossible 100ft tall. The streets are impeccably clean and the elves that live inside no less impressively dressed. The town is inhabited primarily by high elves, but a small number of halfling, human and gnome families also live within the city.

Places

College of Arcana

The college consists of three large buildings. The lecture hall, a two story, long rectangular building with huge ornate windows made of living wood. The windows in the hall are opaque white/green from the outside. The hall of trials is a massively round 8 story stone building, which is completely windowless. Thick moss coats the build up to the fourth story after which, marble peers out from above. A massive door leads inward. The third building is the library, which is constructed of pure white marble, with large green glass windows.

The Lecture Hall

The inside of the lecture hall is made of living wood, making the floors uneven, the hallways random and confusing and the lecture halls strangely shaped.

The Library

The library is in complete contrast to the lecture hall. The rooms and floors are perfectly square and orderly. The thousands of books are stored on metal shelves, many of which are locked by chains to the shelves.

The Hall of Trials

Access to the hall of trials is restricted to students in their final year of examination and to professors of the college. The doors will open to no one else.

The Silver Leaf

A 6 story tall wood stone building sits in the middle of a crowded street. A sign hanging off the front displays a picture of a silver leaf. A large open deck sits on one side of the building, where dozens of elves and humans sit, smoking, eating, chatting and listening to serene elven pipe music.

Temple to Naralis Analor

A glade of trees and beautiful flowers sits in the center of the city holds a small shrine made from intertwining trees. Several priests. The priests wear robes with a white dove on a shield embroidered on it.

Caves of Nilathbel

The caves of Nilathbel are primarily used as an underground water entrance from the Red Swine River into the city. Flat Boats carrying a variety of supplies dock under the city, which is strictly controlled and regulated by the guards of Nilathbel. The caves are made of granite, with many stalactites protruding from the ceiling. The caves are cool and damp, making it a destination for relaxation during the hot summer months. While most use the main cave and a few well known large side caves, the network of caves spans for many miles underground.
