Pre‐Start Reading List - ganong-noel/lab_manual GitHub Wiki

Required reading

  • Books (discuss together at orientation)
    • Getting Things Done by David Allen
      • Note: it might be surprising that we are assigning you a book whose intended audience is executives. We think this stuff is essential in any job, including this one. And we think it will be crucial for you in grad school if you decide to pursue it.
    • Smarter Better Faster by Charles Duhigg
      • Note: the standards of evidence are poor in this book (e.g. a lot of anecdotes and correlation). We are assigning this book because we think it contains good ideas about how to be productive in a team, rather than because we think it presents compelling evidence for these ideas.
  • Articles
  • Papers (discuss together in a separate meeting. Please ask questions even on papers you may not be working on immediately).
