Pegasus (BDB Condor) satellites were designed to measure the impact of micrometeorites on orbiting spacecraft. They were launched on Saturn I test flights together with a boilerplate Apollo Command Module, Launch Escape System and the Pegasus experiment folded inside the Service Module. The assembly rests on top of the S-IV Payload Adapter which sits above the Instrument Unit. The LES is jettisoned after second stage ignition, followed by the Apollo CSM once orbit is reached and finally the Pegasus "wings" are deployed.
