The Mariner (BDB Argo) series were derived from the Ranger Lunar probes and designed to investigate Mars, Venus and Mercury. Of the early concept studies, Mariner B was the most ambitious, involving a flyby and instrument landing on either Mars or Venus and later evolved into the Mariner-Mars project (Mariner 3 & 4). Mariner 2 became was the first probe to encounter another planet when it flew past Venus. Mariner 10 flew past Venus before going on to encounter Mercury. Note that other probes in the series can be built using the separate Probes Plus mod.
