A Finch is a passive tamable mob. They were added in the 1.5.0 Color Update. The model and zebra finch texture were made by P-Plum.

Behavior

Movement

Finches fly randomly and prefer to fly towards tree tops. They will swim when in contact with water. Being diurnal, they sleep at night.

Breeding

Finches can be bred using wheat seeds, melon seeds or beetroot seeds. Baby finches will follow their parents and cannot fly. Females lay 1-4 eggs, and each egg has a 40% chance of hatching. Finches also exhibit flocking behavior, and will congregate in groups of 10 (max).

Taming

Finches can be tamed using wheat seeds, melon seeds or beetroot seeds. Once tamed, they will follow the owner, and will sit if commanded to. Using a stick, the owner can toggle following/wandering.

Spawning

Finches spawn in savannahs in groups of 3-5.
