A Chivalric order member is a person who has been granted the honor of belonging to a particular order of chivalry, and who has thereby been made a knight or dame. This type includes members of active and inactive, medieval and modern legitimate orders of chivalry.

• Members of monarchical chivalric orders such as Order of the Thistle and Order of the Dragon (e.g. James Hamilton, 6th Duke of Hamilton, Stefan Lazarević)

• Members of military chivalric orders such as Knights Templar and Teutonic Knights (e.g. Geoffroy de Charney, Archduke Anton)

• Members of religious chivalric orders such as Order of St. Gregory the Great and Order of the Golden Spur (e.g. Robert J. Lane, Julius Caesar Scaliger)

• Members of orders founded by noblemen such as the Order of St. Catherine and Order of the Crescent (e.g. Princess Alice, Charles Marsh Schomberg)

• Members of modern chivalric orders that confer knighthood such as the Order of the Elephant and Order of the British Empire (e.g. Maha Vajiralongkorn, Abdullah I of Jordan, Timothy Granville-Chapman)

• Female members of chivalric orders (e.g. Alexandra of Denmark, Beatrix of the Netherlands, Alexandra Hasluck)

• Noble persons who are not members of any order of chivalry (e.g. James Francis Edward Stuart, Anna Kaiulani, Frances Stevenson)

• Knights who are not members of any organized order of chivalry (e.g. Charles Cornwallis, 2nd Baron Cornwallis, Sir Alexander Stevenson, Stephen Fox)

• Ladies and dames who are not members of any organized order of chivalry (e.g. Lady Elizabeth Stanley, Lady Louise Windsor)

• Founders of chivalric orders (e.g. Charles I of Hungary, Napoleon I of France, Selim III)

• Use the Chivalric order founder type for these.

• Members of false, illegitimate, unrecognized or self-styled orders (e.g. Mar Samuel, Juliusz Nowina-Sokolnicki)

• Members of non-chivalric religious and monastic orders such as Dominican Order and Community of the Resurrection (e.g. Guillaume Courtet, Walter Frere)

• Recipient of orders not pertaining societies and fellowships of knights such as orders of merit and similar awards. (e.g. Order of British India recipient Hashim Ali Khan ; Distinguished Service Order recipient Arnold Jackson)

• Members of associations and organization (Harlan Fiske Stone, Diane Sawyer)

• Use the Organization member type for these.
