music artist - freebase-schema/freebase GitHub Wiki
A Musical Artist can describe either an individual musician or a band of musicians. Typically, a Musical Artist will have released or performed on a Musical Album, recorded or performed on a Musical Track, or gone on a Concert Tour. Composers and lyricists should only have this type if they are also performing or recording artists.
Individual Musical Artists can also be typed as Musicians to capture information about instruments played, group membership, and the like.
-
Individual music artists that perform as solo acts such as singers, guitarists, saxophonists, etc. (e.g. Alicia Keys, Carlos Santana, Rudy Weidoeft).
-
Musical groups or band of musicians (e.g. The Medallions, D12, Brown University Band, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir ).
-
Individual musicians and groups that don't have any released musical albums but have regularly performed in front of an audience such as in music festivals, concerts and tours (e.g. Cormac McCarthy, Mariachi Rosas Divinas).
-
Supporting musicians and members of professional musical groups who have performed on an album or recording (e.g. Adam Clayton, Adrian Young).
-
These should also be typed as musician.
-
Any person who can just sing or play musical instruments but has not released any musical albums/tracks and do not regularly perform on concerts would not be considered a musical artist. A good example of this would be Bill Clinton, a former U.S. president and a saxophone player.
-
Classical composers and librettists (e.g. Franz Schubert, Lorenzo Da Ponte)
-
Use the composer and librettist types for these.
-

-
Dancers who have released musical albums and compilations of musical tracks performed by persons other than themselves.
-
Collaborations. For example, the artists Queen and David Bowie collaborated on a single Under Pressure. They should be represented as two artists, rather than creating a new "Queen and David Bowie" artist.
