A symptom is an indication of the existence of a disease or medical condition. A symptom can be either a sensation, a change in health function or a physical condition which indicates a particular illness or disorder in humans.

• Purely subjective symptoms noticed only by the patient (e.g. Anxiety, Dizziness, Back pain)

• Objective signs detected upon physical examination or medical testing (e.g. Breast lump, Hematuria, Blumberg sign, Duroziez’s sign)

• May also be typed as Diagnostic sign.

• Diseases and medical conditions that are also symptoms of other diseases (e.g. Diarrhea, Arthritis, Anorexia, Dysmenorrhea)

• Co-type with the Disease or medical condition type.

• Risk factors of diseases that are also symptoms (e.g. Hypotension is a symptom of Dehydration; at the same time, it is also a risk factor of Acute renal failure)

• Co-type with the Risk factor type.

• Diseases and medical conditions that are not symptoms of any diseases (e.g. Lung cancer, Chickenpox, Poliomyelitis)

• Use the Disease or medical condition type for these.

• Anything that causes diseases or medical conditions (e.g. Poliovirus, Exposure to allergens, Pollution)

• Use the Disease cause type for these.

• Anything that increases a person's likelihood of developing or contracting a disease or medical condition (e.g. Radiation therapy, Tobacco smoking, Sedentary lifestyle)

• Use the Risk factor type for these.

• Stages of diseases (e.g. Stage 0 bladder cancer, Stage I bladder cancer)

• Use the Disease stage type for these.
