The medical treatment type is used for any medical intervention designed to treat and cure human diseases and medical conditions. This type includes both curative and palliative treatments.

• Drugs and other pharmacological treatments (e.g. Aspirin, Clotrimazole, Steroidal ophthalmic drops), including illegal and recreational drugs that are also used for medical treatment (e.g. Amyl Nitrite, Cannabis, Dextromethamphetamine).

• Vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antibodies, hormones, etc. used as ingredients or active compounds in pharmacological and medical treatments.

• Vitamins and minerals (e.g. Vitamin C, Potassium)

• Enzymes (e.g. Hyaluronidase)

• Antibodies (e.g. Basiliximab)

• Hormones (e.g. Progesterone, Estrone)

• Herbs and herbal treatments (e.g. Ephedra, St. John’s Wort, Bitter melon). In general, only Organism parts, not Organism classifications, should be considered Medical treatments, unless the organism is used in its entirety for the treatment.

• Psychotherapies, behavioral and other corrective therapies (e.g. Exposure therapy, Cognitive behavioral therapy, Speech therapy)

• Surgeries, transplants and related procedures (e.g. Coronary artery bypass surgery, Kidney transplantation)

• Medical procedures that are intended to treat diseases (e.g. Radiation therapy)

• Exercise, fitness routines and diet (e.g. Physical exercise, Low sodium diet)

• Palliative treatments that do not cure diseases but reduce the severity and alleviate pain and discomfort. (e.g. Morphine, Bronchodilator, Dolasetron, Hormone replacement therapy)

• Purely preventative medical procedures, devices and methods that do not cure any medical conditions.

• Vaccines (e.g. Flu Vaccine, Polio Vaccine)

• Medical devices (e.g. Dental floss, Condom)

• Diagnostic tests and similar procedures (e.g. Chest X-ray, Blood test, Electrocardiogram)

• Machines and devices used in treatments and medical procedures (e.g. Portable Ultrasound, X-ray machine, Tympanostomy tube)

• Use the medical device type for these.

• Medical trials (e.g. Nimtuzumab in adults with glioblastoma multiforma, Hypertension prevention trial feasibility study)

• Use the medical trial type for these.

• Paranormal, religious, and faith healing procedures (e.g. Psychic surgery, Therapeutic touch, Laying on of hands)

• Veterinary medical treatments and procedures (e.g. Sulfadimethoxine, Fecal parvovirus test)

• There are medical treatments that are also used as prevention factors for some diseases. For instance, Aspirin is a cure for Rheumatic fever, at the same time it is also used as a preventive drug for Coronary heart disease.
