A medical specialty is a branch of medical science that any medical practitioner can have as a specialization. They can do this by furthering their medical studies to focus on that specialization and completing a multiple-year residency.

Examples

• Cardiology - Cardiology is a medical specialty that deals with the heart and its disorders. It includes diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions. Physicians who specialize in this field of medicine are called cardiologists.
• Neurology - Neurology is a medical specialty dealing with disorders of the nervous system. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and disease that affect the nervous system. A neurologist is a physician specializing in neurology.
• Pediatrics - Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents up to 18 years old. A medical practitioner who specializes in this area is known as a pediatrician.
• Dentistry - Dentistry is the branch of medicine that is involved in the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity, the maxillofacial area and the adjacent and associated structures, and their impact on the human body.
